THINGS TO DO
Longs isn’t a place often visited by tourists, and that’s just why we like it. It’s still within 20 minutes of all of the excitement of North Myrtle Beach, but it’s far enough out (and completely off the radar for most tourists) that it seems like a perfect blend of small-town local living and also that feeling of knowing you’re just within arm’s reach of an abundance of different attractions.
With all of that said, here are some things to do in Longs, as well as a couple of popular attractions which are just a short drive away.
River Island Adventures
River Island Adventures sits just along the Waccamaw River and is a great option for visitors looking for kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. You can rent equipment and enjoy self-guided expeditions or join guided tours led by their team of guides. Visitors can encounter diverse wildlife like herons, turtles, and alligators, while taking in the scenic views of cypress swamps and Spanish moss trees.
Waccamaw River Heritage Preserve
The Waccamaw River Heritage Preserve is home to many diverse ecosystems, including swamps, hardwood forests, and freshwater wetlands. The Waccamaw River Heritage Preserve offers a peaceful retreat and a chance to reconnect with nature in the heart of Longs.
Wine Tours
While Longs doesn’t have its own wineries, wine enthusiasts can enjoy wine tours at nearby vineyards and wineries. There’s quite a few, including La Belle Amie Vineyard in Little River, where visitors can partake in guided wine tastings and explore the vineyard’s grounds, sample a variety of handcrafted wines, and learn about the winemaking process from knowledgeable staff. Other options include Silver Coast Winery in Ocean Isle Beach, NC, and Duplin Winery in North Myrtle Beach, which offer immersive wine tasting experiences, cellar tours, and opportunities to purchase bottles of your favorite vintages to enjoy at home.
Shopping
Longs is conveniently located near larger shopping centers and outlets, including North Myrtle Beach’s Barefoot Landing and the Tanger Outlets in Myrtle Beach. These retail hubs offer a wide range of stores, ranging from designer brands and popular retailers to specialty shops and souvenir boutiques.
Fishing
Spend an afternoon fishing on the Waccamaw River, or make your way further out to the Intracoastal Waterway, Cherry Grove marsh, or to the beach. Regardless of whether you prefer saltwater or freshwater fishing, there’s plenty of opportunities to catch fish in and around Longs.
